So the story is about a Captain sent into a hostile area on a mission to retrieve a rogue Colonel. soldiers you're trying to reach start treating Walker and his team as enemies and begin firing on them, forcing them to fire back. The rescue mission soon gets out of control, when it becomes clear that the U.S. Weeks pass without any contact and the army begins to fear that Konrad and his men were killed, but when a distress signal from the area is picked up, Walker and his crew get assigned to find Konrad and discover what happened. The plot sees Captain Martin Walker (a play on Apocalypse Now's Martin Sheen perhaps?) sent on a mission into sandstorm-ravaged Dubai to retrieve Colonel John Konrad (very clearly a reference to Joseph Conrad, author of Heart of Darkness, the book which Apocalypse Now is based on) who refused a direct order to evacuate the military training facility he was stationed at, instead deciding to stay back with the men under his command to help the citizens that couldn't evacuate in time. This game is willing to go to some very dark thematic territory. While most games look to war movies like Saving Private Ryan and the films of Michael Bay for inspiration, Spec Ops: The Line has a storyline that harkens back to Joseph Conrad's book Heart of Darkness and Francis Ford Coppola's film Apocalypse Now. With that in mind, we thought we'd give you the top five reasons why we think Spec Ops: The Line deserves your attention. ![]() With Spec Ops: The Line, it seems that publisher 2K Games' goal is to redeem one of its old and seemingly dead properties entirely, and after playing through select sections of the game's first eight chapters, it seems to be succeeding in an awesome way. The good news is that this isn't a bad thing. It doesn't seem to have all that much in common with other Spec Ops games, aside from it being a military shooter with squad elements. Cut to a decade later and the series has returned with Spec Ops: The Line.
